KEY STAGE 5


We are very pleased to be able to offer a wide range of courses to students in Years 12 and 13. We believe we offer a range of courses that are suitable for all different styles of learning and more importantly a range of courses that give students the best opportunities to undertake a career in the ever changing fields of ICT and Media – see Media Section for more information on this course.


The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology offers a route for students wishing to still study ICT after Key Stage 4.  The course consists of three mandatory units and one optional unit and is equivalent to one A Level with the same UCAS points. Students can expect to work on a range of products such as the development of websites and database systems.  They are also expected to learn a range of theory, exploring the more advanced elements of ICT.


ASSESSMENT


UNIT 1: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SYSTEMS


Externally Assessed Examination


Learners study the role of computer systems and the implications of their use in personal and professional situations.


UNIT 2: CREATING SYSTEMS TO MANAGE INFORMATION


Externally Assessed 10 hour Practical Examination


Learners study the design, creation, testing and evaluation of a relational database system to manage information.


UNIT 3: USING SOCIAL MEDIA IN BUSINESS


Internally Assessed  Coursework and externally moderated


Learners explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services. Learners also implement social media activities in a business to meet requirements.


UNIT 4: WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT


Internally Assessed  Coursework and externally moderated


Learners investigate website development principles. They will design and develop a website using scripting languages.
