ICT

SUBJECT OVERVIEW

The ICT department consists of a small team of specialist teachers.  Our aim is to offer a wide range of courses across all Key stages that will enable students to become confident users of ICT and understand how ICT is used in the real world. Courses are planned to be interesting, challenging and help broaden the students skills and knowledge of ICT.

KEY STAGE 3

At Key Stage 3 students studying ICT work through a vast range of topics  and packages some of which include Scratch, Microsoft Office, Serif  Multimedia suite and much more.

Key Stage 3 students  can expect to complete a range of exciting tasks such  as programming a computer game, designing a stop frame animation and producing a professional website.  To accompany these exciting tasks pupils will develop important skills within Office such as working with spreadsheets and databases.

Students are assessed via the outcomes they produce when solving the scenarios they have been set during each unit and a work booklet that consists of classwork and homework tasks.

KEY STAGE 4

At Key Stage 4 students  can undertake a Vocational GCSE course, this consists of one external exam which will cover a range of topics such as features and purpose of computing devices, how ICT is used to communicate and legal and safety issues linked to ICT.

The rest of the course consists of three pieces of coursework which will cover a range of skills and software packages. One assessment focuses on a scenario they have to work through solving problems for a client on Office based software such as spreadsheets and database and the other is based on the creation of a website.
