ADMISSION TO YEAR 7 SEPTEMBER 2020
Welcome to all students who have been offered a place at The Whitby High School for September 2020! We are delighted that you will be joining us. We will be getting in touch with you soon with further information and it is important that you return the requested documents as confirmation that you will be taking the place. If you do not wish to take up the allocated place please email AdmissionsCWAC@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk . As we are oversubscribed there is a waiting list and places that we know are not required can be allocated to other applicants.
As the duration of school closures is currently uncertain we are postponing all visits to school at this stage, including parents/carers’ meetings and student transition visits. Behind the scenes we are getting things ready for our newest school members and will soon be talking (virtually!) with current primary teachers so that we can best manage your children's transition to us.
Please make sure you have emailed school to confirm that you are accepting the place and let us know of any changes to addresses, emails or phone numbers. If we don't have all of this information you might miss important updates from us.
We will be in touch with updates in due course. For now we are considering how best to manage the transition programme this year but we will do our absolute utmost to ensure that all young people have plenty of opportunity to get used to the school and realise there's nothing to worry about!
We look forward to meeting you at a later date!
The School Admissions Policy replicates that of the Local Authority (please click here for link to Cheshire West and Chester website).
IN YEAR TRANSFERS:
All requests for admissions between September and July in any year are dealt with by the school. If you wish to apply for a place at The Whitby High School, please complete the In-
Completed forms should please be returned to the Admissions Officer at the school.
Due to the guidance around the Coronavirus (Covid19) outbreak, it has been necessary to temporarily suspend Appeal Panel Hearings, therefore scheduled School Admission Appeals will not go ahead in line with the published dates.
If you lodge an appeal with us, we will forward it to Legal and Democratic services who will contact you with a date as soon as they are able and pending advice from the Department for Education about how all English Local Authority area Education Appeals are to be administered in this unprecedented time.
Our Open Evening and Open Sessions give you the opportunity to have a look around the school and meet our students and staff.
At the Open Evening, which usually takes place during September, information is available regarding many aspects of school life, and what you can expect from The Whitby High School, as well as specific events and activities taking place in department. Year 8 students are on hand to take you on a guided tour around the school, and to answer any questions you might have. There will be a formal address by the Headteacher on the evening and senior staff are available all evening to welcome you, and to answer your questions.
If you want to know even more following the Open Evening, we would encourage you to attend one of our Open Sessions. These take place during the Autumn Term, and senior staff will give you a tour the school in a small group and visit a variety of lessons.
